Wish you could skip traditional metal braces? Ask our Northville dentists if you’re a candidate for Invisalign® aligners. As the name suggests, Invisalign are nearly invisible aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. During Invisalign treatment, the aligners exert constant but gentle pressure on your teeth to move into optimal alignment.

Here’s what else you need to know about Invisalign treatment.

Candidates for Invisalign

First, you’ll need to schedule a consultation with one of our Invisalign dentists at Gasior Family Dental. During your appointment, they’ll be able to determine if you’re a candidate for Invisalign aligners.

Invisalign is able to tackle more complex orthodontic cases than ever before. For example, Invisalign now offers SmartForce® attachments, which act as handles for your aligners to gently push against.

SmartForce attachments are small tooth-colored shapes that our dentists are able to attach to your teeth. These attachments are still discreet but allow us to make more complex tooth movements without the need for traditional metal braces.

That being said, not everyone is a candidate for Invisalign aligners. That’s why it’s important that you schedule an appointment with our dentists as soon as possible to learn about your orthodontic treatment options.

Treatment Planning

If you’re a candidate for Invisalign, our dentists will use the Medit Element® scanner to take a non-invasive 3D scan of your teeth. Instead of using messy dental impressions, they’re able to wave a small handheld scanner over your smile, which will create a precise digital scan of your teeth.

your dream smile. With our special software, they’ll give you an approximate timeline for Invisalign treatment and show you what your smile could look like if you commit to wearing aligners.

Trying On Your First Aligners

We’ll let you know when your Invisalign aligners are ready to be picked up. During your appointment, one of our dentists will check that your aligners fit well and answer any questions you may have about Invisalign treatment.

Invisalign uses their SmartTrack® material to ensure your aligners have a comfortable fit. They also individually trim each aligner to fit along your gum line.

Wearing Your Aligners Every Day

Once you get your aligners, it’s important that you wear them for at least 20 to 22 hours per day. Otherwise, your teeth won’t move according to schedule and you’ll fall behind on your treatment plan. This extends your treatment time, which means you’ll have to wear Invisalign aligners for longer than originally anticipated.

teeth, and floss. You should also remove your aligners if you plan to drink anything but water. That way, you don’t trap sugary liquid against your teeth and stain your aligners.

After eating or drinking anything but water, be sure to brush your teeth so your Invisalign aligners remain clear and discreet.

treatment, you’ll have appointments with our office so our dentists can check in on your progress. If your teeth have moved according to plan, our dentists will then give you the next set of aligners in your treatment plan.

Wearing Your Retainer After Invisalign Treatment

Once you’re done with the final set of aligners, we’ll give you a retainer to wear as directed by our dentists. That way, your teeth won’t revert back to their original positions and you’ll be able to enjoy your new smile for the rest of your life.
