Tooth Extractions

Dental Tooth Extractions Northville Mi

Our tooth extraction dentists do everything in their power to save a tooth. However, sometimes a tooth needs to be extracted as a last resort if it’s too badly damaged. If you have a severe toothache or other dental emergency, don’t hesitate to call our office. Our dentists will be able to examine your teeth, gums, and X-rays to determine the best way to restore oral health.

What happens during tooth extractions?

First, we’ll numb the tooth with local anesthetic. Our Northville MI tooth extraction dentists can also provide nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help relieve any anxiety you might feel while being in the chair. Once you’re properly numb, we’ll use special tools to lift the tooth from its socket. During dental extraction, we’ll remove the visible portion of your tooth and the roots.

What are the side effects of removing teeth?

Once your body senses you have missing teeth, it’ll begin to absorb the minerals in your jaw to use elsewhere. Teeth adjacent to the gap in your smile will also begin to tilt toward the empty space unless stopped by a partial denture, implant, or bridge. We prefer to save tooth extraction as a last resort. If we do move forward with dental extraction, our dentists can help you explore your tooth replacement options once you recover.

How can I avoid getting a tooth pulled?

The best way to avoid tooth extraction is to adopt good oral hygiene habits, such as brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once daily. We also recommend scheduling a routine teeth cleaning and oral examination with our office every 6 months. During your appointment, we’ll be able to spot and treat oral health issues while they’re small. These measures will help you avoid tooth extraction.
